Every time you drive through a school zone, and in this area there are a lot of them, please pray for the students, teachers and families in that school. It is such a small thing, a short quick prayer, but our communities need it.

Matthew 5:14-16

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Our Parish supports the Chaplaincy work of Scripture Union (SU) at Wellington Point State School.  Since March 2020, this has been Emily Jewell (known to the school children and staff as 'Chappy Em'.

Emily had a strange beginning to her ministry in the school.  Two weeks after she began in her role in 2020, all schools closed due to COVID 19, and most students started learning from home.

However, with fewer students coming to school, Emily was able to dedicate more time to caring for those vulnerable students who still had to attend. It also meant she had more time to love and support the staff through the transition period.

But there was so much need within the school community.  How could one person ever meet this!?

But, as Emily recounts:

"I just sat in my car one afternoon and prayed Lord please provide. All the charities were struggling to keep up and I was still new – I didn’t know who to ask.

It sounds a bit unbelievable but in the next week I had members of the community calling up to donate, I had hampers from all sorts of random places just dropped at the school office. One Friday I had the office lady calling me up every hour – someone else has dropped something here, and another, and another! They were so shocked and so was I – what a beautiful testimony of Gods provision! It was my loaves and fishes moment."

As we all know from time to time, it is easy to doubt, but Emily says since beginning this work, she has seen time and time again in this job that God's hand is there and He cares for us so deeply.

And she has a challenge for us all.

Every time you drive through a school zone, and in this area there are a lot of them, please pray for the students, teachers and families in that school. It is such a small thing, a short quick prayer, but our communities need it.

Our Parish provides ongoing prayer and financial support to the Chaplaincy Program at Wellington Point State School.  You can be a part of this ongoing work:
